Sebelum menjadi Spesialis Bedah Ortopedi di Gleneagles Hospital, Dr. Tan adalah seorang Panitera Senior di Singapore General Hospital.
Dr Tan mewakili Singapura dalam program ASEAN Orthopaedic Association Junior Travelling Fellowship ke-15 pada tahun 1997. Beliau juga telah menerbitkan dan mempresentasikan sejumlah makalah tentang Rekonstruksi Ligamen Anterior Cruciatum dan Metode Endoskopi Paliasi untuk Karsinoma Esofagus Lanjut.
