Stereotactic radiation therapy is very precisely targeted radiation therapy. The radiation beams are aimed at your tumour from many different points, which means the radiation therapy is given very accurately. Stereotactic radiation therapy is usually given in 6 to 25 daily doses called fractions. A single fraction of stereotactic radiation therapy is called radiosurgery.
Stereotactic radiation therapy is used to treat small tumours in the brain, spinal cord, lungs, and liver. This therapy can also be given directly to your tumour as a ‘boost’ at the end of conventional radiation therapy.
