Stereotactic Radiation Therapy

  • What is Stereotactic Radiation Therapy?

Stereotactic radiation therapy is precisely targeted radiation therapy. The radiation beams are aimed at the tumour from many, different points, which means the radiation therapy is given very accurately. This therapy is usually given in 6 – 25 daily doses called fractions. A single fraction of stereotactic radiation therapy is called radiosurgery.

  • Stereotactic radiation therapy is used to treat small tumours in the brain, spinal cord, lungs, and liver. This therapy can also be given directly to the tumour as a ‘boost’ at the end of conventional radiation therapy.
