The results of the TTE will allow your doctor to find, evaluate and monitor any functional and structural abnormalities of your heart. These abnormalities may include tumours, fluid build-up around the heart, a hole in the heart, heart murmur, infection on or around the heart valves and damage to the heart muscle after a heart attack. It also allows your doctor to assess if your heart is pumping blood efficiently and if the valves are working normally.
A TTE can also find congenital heart disease (heart disease present at birth) and can also be used to find the source of a blood clot that caused a stroke.
