What is gastroenterology?
Gastroenterology is a medical specialty that focuses on the health of the digestive system or the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.
The digestive system is a system of organs that works to convert food into energy needed by your body. It starts from the mouth to the anus and includes the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon), pancreas, gall bladder and liver.
Gastroenterology covers the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting these organs.
