  • Dr Lee Haw Chou is an orthopaedic surgeon with about 10 years experience in the field. He provides specialised care in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal diseases at his clinic at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.
  • Upon his graduation from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (MBBS, 1993), he underwent basic training and then completed specialty training in General Surgery (FRCS Edinburgh, 1998). He was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Orthopaedic Surgery, Edinburgh in 2003. Having attended various short term fellowships in Spine Surgery in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the UK, Dr Lee underwent a 12-month stint at the University of Missouri, USA, where he worked with various masters of Spine Surgery.
  • Before establishing his private practice, Dr Lee was a senior consultant at the Orthopaedic Department at Changi General Hospital. During her tenure, he championed the Orthopaedic Geriatric Programme and was the Director of the Osteoporosis Programme (OPTIMAL), which does preventive counseling, treatment and lifestyle advice for the elderly. He also served as the Chief of the Spine Service, which he was instrumental in setting up in 2009. Additionally, he oversaw the training of junior spine surgeons and established a comprehensive patient care programme where patients are led through the surgical process and its recovery with a multi-disciplinary team of nurses and physiotherapist.
  • Besides his dedication to achieving the best for his patients, Dr Lee is also passionate about improving healthcare processes. Over the years, he has secured three grants from the Ministry of Health’s Healthcare Quality Improvement Fund. He also spearheaded process improvements throughout Changi General Hospital with respect to clinical infection and thromboprophylaxis. The care of the elderly with hip fractures was also enhanced by Dr Lee through a multi-disciplinary team at the hospital. In addition, Dr Lee sits on the Ministry of Health’s Hip Fracture Workgroup for the continued improvement in care for these patients. In recognition of his efforts towards quality improvement, he has won numerous awards from the Health Ministry and was thrice a recipient of the Singhealth Service Quality Award.
  • Clinical research is an aspect of medicine that Dr Lee has special interest in. To date, he has written several papers in peer reviewed journals and was also a recipient of the National Medical Research Council grant in 2010 for a study in which he was the Principal Investigator.
  • Dr Lee also enjoys teaching undergraduates and surgical trainees. He is currently a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore.
