Dr Ng Zhi Xu is a neurosurgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
His sub-specialty interests are in neurotrauma, neuro-oncology and spine surgery.
Prior to joining private practice, he was a visiting consultant at the National University Hospital (NUH) and the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI). He is currently a visiting consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH).
Dr Ng graduated from the National University of Singapore and completed his basic medical training at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and KTPH. He also served two years in the Singapore Armed Forces as a medical officer. He then started his neurosurgical training at NUH and KTPH where he developed his sub-specialty interests.
During his training, he completed a one-year fellowship in neurosurgery in Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, UK, focusing on sub-specialties in spine and neuro-oncology.
While working at KTPH, he got interested in teaching and was the chief organiser for GP and nursing forums and was also the site director for residency teaching. Together with the other neurosurgical specialists, he also helped organise an exam preparatory course to help residents in their final specialist exams. He worked closely with both NNI and NUH and had a number of collaborations. Since 2011, he has performed more that 2,000 neurosurgical procedures.
Dr Ng has ongoing research grants and collaborations with NUH in developing modified stem cell treatment for resistant brain cancers. He has published in several peer-reviewed journals.
