Dr Anna Marie Tan is an ophthalmologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.

Her subspecialties are in cornea diseases and refractive surgery. She performs corneal transplants, amniotic membrane transplants, pterygium excisions (a procedure to remove non-cancerous conjunctiva growths or pterygia from the eye) as well as medical management of corneal conditions. Additionally, she is well-versed in femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery and laser refractive procedures such as bladeless LASIK, surface ablation and ReLEx SMILE.

Prior to joining private practice, Dr Tan was a senior consultant in the department of ophthalmology at the National University Hospital (NUH). She was the head of cornea and external eye diseases as well as the head of the LASIK centre. While at NUH, she introduced cornea endothelial transplant and started the SMILE surgery service. She has been practising medicine for more than 15 years.

Dr Tan obtained her degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and was awarded Dean's List in her final year and second professional examinations. She subsequently was placed as the best candidate in cornea, glaucoma, cataract and oculoplastics sections in the ophthalmology exit examination, going on to pursue further subspecialty training with leading eye surgeons in the region.

Besides her clinical work, she was the programme director for NUH's ophthalmology residency programme, where she was recognised with postgraduate young educator awards for teaching. Her current appointments include deputy clinical director, executive committee and medical advisory board member of the Singapore Eye Bank, and assistant professor in ophthalmology at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. She also sits on several advisory committees and clinician workgroups for the Ministry of Health.

Dr Tan hosts public talks on common eye diseases, contributes columns to Lianhe Wanbao, and is an invited speaker on local radio and TV. She has received the Long Service Award at NUH.
