  • Dr Gerald Tan is a urologist practising at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore. His clinical expertise includes minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, robotic surgery and the treatment of prostate, kidney, bladder and cervical cancers.
  • Dr Tan has conducted over 550 robotic prostate surgeries. He was also one of the first in Singapore to perform robotic partial kidney surgery for early kidney cancer and robotic bladder surgery for muscle-invasive bladder cancer.
  • Dr Tan completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Edinburgh, UK in 1996. Subsequently, he became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK in 2002 and attained his Master of Medicine in surgery in 2003. He then completed his specialist training in urology in 2007 at both the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
  • In 2009, Dr Tan was awarded the James Syme medal for outstanding research achievement by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK. He is the first surgeon trained outside the UK to receive this recognition of excellence.
  • Dr Tan pursued a fellowship in prostate cancer and robotic urologic oncology under robotic surgeon Ash Tewari, the director of the LeFrak Institute of Robotic Surgery at Cornell University, USA. Their research has been awarded with honours from the American Urological Association, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the Sexual Medicine Society of North America, and the International College of Surgeons.
  • Dr Tan was formerly a surgical proctor at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), where he headed the robotic urology task force and oversaw the development of the hospital’s inpatient care for patients undergoing robotic prostate surgery.
  • Dr Tan has authored 7 book chapters and over 25 peer-reviewed scientific papers published in renowned journals, such as the Urology Gold Journal, European Urology, Urologic Clinics of North America, Journal of Endourology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and the British Journal of Urology International. He is also a reviewer for the British Journal of Urology International in the fields of minimally invasive and robotic surgery.
