Experience
Dr Tan Boon Yew is a cardiologist at Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
His specialty is in the management of complex atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, novel ablative techniques, as well as cardiac implantable electronic devices. He also has keen interests in conduction system pacing, cardiac implantable defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy.
He is experienced in general cardiology including electrocardiography, echocardiography, treadmill stress test, stress echocardiography and Holter, as well as inherited arrhythmias/cardiomyopathies. He also offers arrhythmia services including device implantation and catheter ablation.
He was a senior consultant at the National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS).
Dr Tan graduated from the University of Sheffield, UK. He completed his training in internal medicine and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians, UK. He subsequently underwent training in general cardiology at NHCS. He received the Health Manpower Development Plan award and the National Medical Research Council award to pursue subspecialty training in electrophysiology and pacing at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, USA. During his training there, he participated in the arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia/cardiomyopathy programme, culminating in several peer-reviewed publications which helped to understand this genetic disorder.
He was an adjunct assistant professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. He was active in training the next generation of cardiologists in Singapore and was appointed a core clinical faculty member in the cardiology senior residency programme. He was also the chairman of the programme evaluation committee of the cardiology senior residency programme. Dr Tan was appointed chairman of the cardiology senior residency training exit exam committee under the auspices of the Joint Committee of Specialist Training, Singapore.
Dr Tan is a certified cardiac device specialist as well as a certified electrophysiology specialist (CEPS-A) with the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners. He is a test writing committee member for the certified electrophysiology specialist exams, and contributes to the international accreditation of electrophysiologists who participate in the CEPS-A. He has been practising medicine for more than 20 years.
He was awarded multiple NHCS Service Quality Awards.
