背景

  • Prior to leaving for private practice, Dr Chong was Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Singapore General Hospital. During this time, he received his “long service award” and multiple “service awards” annually. He also established the “foot and ankle fellowship training program” in the Singapore General Hospital and has trained many regional surgeons. Dr Chong is an active faculty member of AOTrauma (Arbeitgemeineshaft fur Osteosynthesefrage) and has been awarded “Gold membership” status for his contributions. He is also a member of the Dragon total knee replacement study which involves about twenty surgeons from across Asia.
  • Dr Chong has performed the largest numbers of artificial ankle joint replacements for ankle arthritis in Singapore. He is also the first surgeon in Singapore to extensively perform the ‘low tibial osteotomy’ for the treatment of ankle osteoarthritis, thus preserving the patient’s natural joint and avoiding a joint replacement or fusion. He has also performed the largest numbers of lower-ankle (subtalar) joint arthroscopy and tendon scopes in Singapore. In addition, he is a key opinion leader in Asia Pacific on the use of radiofrequency coblation technology in the minimally invasive treatment of tendon injuries and heel pain.
  • Dr Chong remains a visiting consultant to 3 large public hospitals in Singapore, namely Singapore General Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital which is the largest trauma centre in Singapore, and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital which is the newest public hospital in Singapore .
  • Dr Chong’s main work is in correction of leg, foot and ankle deformities, total knee and total ankle arthroplasty, sports injuries of the foot and ankle, and minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery. These include tendon endoscopic procedures, ankle and lower-ankle (subtalar) joint arthroscopy.
