  • Using your Insurance for a Hospitalisation Bill

Gleneagles Hospital is a combined tertiary private healthcare provider and that works with many insurance partners to help pay hospital bills. Gleneagles Hospital accepts bill funds from local and international private hospital insurance and Medisave-approved Medishield, also known as ‘Integrated Shield Plans’ (IPs).

  • Medishield Life & Integrated Shield Plans

Medishield Life replaced Medishield on 1 November 2015. It covers Singaporeans and permanent residents who contribute to the Central Provident Fund (CPF), and covers an insured individual up to a Class B2 of C ward in public hospitals. You may use your Medisave to buy added private insurance coverage on top of your Medishield Life, thus translating to owning an Integrated Shield Plan (IP). An IP, provided by a private insurer, gives the insured individual access to higher coverage in private hospitals. Gleneagles Insurance Coverage-Integrated Shield Plan/Medishield Life

Medisave-approved private insurers offers Integrated Shield Plan and provides a ‘rider’ option for added coverage. A 'rider' is an extra monthly or yearly cash payment to your private IP that pays out more funds for the required cash payable parts of your Medishield Life-covered hospital bill. Having a ‘rider’ means that out-of-pocket payables (deductible and co-insurance) are paid for when you process your claims.

If you have an IP covered for ‘private hospitals as charged’ and have bought a ‘rider’, it allows you to claim up to 90%* or more of your Gleneagles Hospital bill. See the infographic on how IPs can cover your hospital bill.

Pre-Admission – Before You are Admitted at Gleneagles Hospital

    • Letter of Guarantee

Upon admission, please provide your identification number to our admission staff at the admissions counter, level 2. The letter of guarantee can be found electronically through our computer system for the deposit.

A letter of guarantee allows you to be admitted without paying the required deposit, and can be issued for up to a total of $10,000, depending on your chosen Integrated Shield Plan. Please check with your insurance agent on how much of a waiver you are entitled to.

    • Deposit of Hospital Bill During Admission

If you do not have a letter of guarantee, you will be required to pay for the full hospital bill deposit upon admission. For example, for a deposit bill of $ 18,404, if a letter of guarantee covers the amount of $10,000, then the deposit required upon admission will be the remaining $8,404.

    • Hospital Bill Payment upon Discharge

The hospital will collect the full amount of the hospital bill when the patient is released. Using the example above, the amount that must be paid upon discharge will be $18,404*. As mentioned above, a letter of guarantee is a waiver of deposit, and does not act as a waiver for the outstanding balance upon discharge.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

    • How do I know if I have an Integrated Shield Plan that covers me for Gleneagles Hospital?

An ISP from Medisave-approved private insurers gives you more coverage in private hospitals like Gleneagles Hospital. The added coverage is an extension of everyone’s Medishield Life benefit. If you have an IP covered for ‘private hospitals as charged’ and buy a 'rider', your IP allows you to claim up to 90%* or more of your Gleneagles Hospital bill.

    • Medishield Life covers ailments I already have. If I have an Integrated Shield Plan, does this mean these ailments are now covered as well?

MediShield Life will provide basic coverage for ailments you already have, even if this is taken out of the top-up coverage provided by your private insurer. What this means is that should you need treatment, you will still be covered at Class B2 or Class C in the public hospitals, provided by MediShield Life. This coverage is not extended to your IP benefits. Therefore, if you are treated in a Class A ward, MediShield Life will pay you only the amount you would receive in a B2 ward.

For enquiries on estimated hospital bill size, please call the Gleneagles Hospital bill adviser at 6812 3776.

    • Am I eligible for an Integrated Shield Plan?

If you are a Singaporean, or if you are a permanent resident that contributes to the Central Provident Fund (CPF), you would have Medishield Life coverage. Medishield Life serves as a national health coverage that will cover you in a Class C or B2 ward in public hospitals. If you use your Medisave to pay for added premiums on top of your Medishield Life, you would have bought added private insurance coverage and have an ‘Integrated Shield Plan’.

For enquiries on estimated hospital bill size, please call the Gleneagles Hospital bill adviser at 6812 3776.

Find out more about how an Integrated Shield Plan works.

    • What is a 'rider'?

A 'rider' gives added financial coverage for the required cash payable parts of your Medishield Life-covered hospital bill. A rider is an extra monthly or yearly cash payment to your private Integrated Shield Plan. Having a rider means that amounts you pay out-of-pocket (deductible and co-insurance) are paid for when you process your claims.

For enquiries on estimated hospital bill size, please call the Gleneagles Hospital bill adviser at 6812 3776.

    • I have a letter of guarantee. Why do I have to pay the full amount upon discharge?

A letter of guarantee only relieves you of paying a deposit when you are admitted. The hospital is still required to collect the rest of the costs when you are discharged.

For enquiries on estimated hospital bill size, please call the Gleneagles Hospital bill adviser at 6812 3776.

    • How long will it take for my hospital bill to be paid for by my Integrated Shield Plan?

The claims payment usually takes 6 – 8 weeks after your IP's insurance provider processes the claim. If you are a Singaporean / permanent resident, and you have an IP covered for private hospital, your Gleneagles Hospital bill can be paid for up to 90%* or more.
