  • Dr Shanker has a special interest in keyhole surgery for obesity (bariatric surgery) and metabolic disorders, gastro-esophageal conditions including cancer and acid reflux, gallbladder and abdominal hernia. He was formerly the Director of the LIFE Centre and Senior Consultant and Chief of the Metabolic-Bariatric Surgery service at the Department of Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery, SGH
  • Dr Shanker is the current president of the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of Singapore (OMSSS) and a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He is the immediate past president of the Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (Singapore Chapter)
  • After basic surgical training in Singapore, Dr Shanker underwent higher training in gastro-intestinal and vascular surgery in the UK, France and Germany. He completed a one year fellowship in “Advanced laparoscopy and robotic surgery” at the IRCAD (Institut de Recherche contre les Cancers de l’Appareil Digestif) and Université Louis-Pasteur Strasbourg 1.
