Dr Chan graduated from the School of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 1993. He completed his Internal Medicine training in Singapore General Hospital and Advanced Specialist Training in Dermatology at the National Skin Centre. He completed his paediatric dermatology fellowship at the Children's Hospital, San Diego, and University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, in the United States of America on a scholarship from the Ministry of Health in 2003.
Prior to entering private practice, Dr Chan was Consultant Dermatologist, Chief of the Paediatric Dermatology Unit and a dermatologic surgeon at the Dermatologic and Laser Surgery Unit in the National Skin Centre. He was also a visiting Consultant Dermatologist to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and a Clinical Teacher at the National University of Singapore. Dr Chan was the President of the Dermatological Society of Singapore from 2008 to 2011. He was the vice- Chairman of the Chapter of Dermatologists, College of Physicians, Academy of Medicine, Singapore from 2007 to 2013.
Dr Chan has published more than 25 scientific papers in peer-reviewed medical journals, contributed chapters to several textbooks and atlases of dermatology, co-edited the "Textbook of Laser and Light Dermatology in Asian Skin" and was part of the teaching faculty at several regional dermatology congresses.
Besides general dermatology, Dr Chan's areas of expertise include paediatric dermatology, skin and laser surgery. These include the treatment of acne, eczema, pigmentation, birthmarks, skin allergy, skin cancers and tumours, skin and sexually transmitted infections, hair and nail disorders.
