Dr Ooi Choon Jin is a gastroenterologist practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. His clinical expertise encompasses nutrition and the treatment of conditions involving the stomach, intestines, liver, gall bladder and bile duct. He routinely performs procedures such as diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy, colonoscopy, balloon-assisted enteroscopy and capsule endoscopy.
Dr Ooi obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1989. He attained his higher degree from the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 1994. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, UK. From 1998 – 2000, he trained at the Centre for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases of the Gastrointestinal Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, USA.
Dr Ooi was formerly the head of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) from 2010 – 2012. He continues to be a visiting consultant to the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre at SGH.
Dr Ooi was the chairman of the Chapter of Gastroenterologists at the Academy of Medicine of Singapore from 2011 – 2015. He also served as a clinical associate professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. Currently, he is an adjunct associate professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School.
Dr Ooi's research interests include inflammatory bowel disease (ie. ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease), malabsorption and disorders related to the helicobacter pylori bacteria. He has published in various journals, such as the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Pathology, Annals of Academic Medicine (Singapore), Singapore Medical Journal, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Gastroenterology, Current Opinion in Gastroenterology and the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics.
