  • Dr Poh Beow Kiong is an urologist practising in Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore. He specialises in laparoscopic or keyhole surgery and endourology, which is a minimally invasive treatment of kidney stones.
  • Other conditions that Dr Poh treats include benign prostatic hyperplasia, bladder cancer, blood in the urine, erectile dysfunction, erection problems, kidney cancer, kidney stones, low sperm count, prostate cancer, prostate disease, sexually transmitted diseases, subfertility, urinary incontinence and urinary tract infections.
  • Dr Poh is one of the first urologists who helped refine the technique of laparoscopic retropubic radical prostate surgery for prostate cancer in Singapore. He is also one of the few urologists in Singapore who routinely uses ultrasound-guided kidney access in the procedure of removing kidney stones. He also has expertise in performing the technically challenging holmium laser prostate surgery, which removes swollen prostates in benign prostatic hyperplasia.
  • After completing his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Dr Poh undertook specialist training in urology and attained his Master in Medicine in surgery. Subsequently, he pursued subspecialty training in keyhole surgery for kidney tumours at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada under endourologist Dr Ben Chew and minimally invasive surgeon Ryan Paterson.
  • During his stint at UBC, Dr Poh was a faculty member of the UBC's urologic residency programme and trained junior urologists in advanced kidney stone surgery. He was also involved in the research and development of new generation endourologic stents, a tube which gives kidney stone patients relief until they can be treated.
  • Dr Poh is currently a clinical teacher and examiner at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. He is also a mentor at the Singapore urology residency training Programme, in the fields of urological cancers and urinary stones. Dr Poh is also an invited lecturer with the Indonesian Urological Association and trains urologists in the region.
